The White Crow Arrives This July

Several years ago, I wrote a psychological thriller called WHEN YOU ARE MINE, which I thought was a standalone novel. It introduced a young ambitious London police officer Philomena McCarthy, who had defied the odds to join the Metropolitan Police because she came from a family of notorious East End gangsters.

I fell in love with Phil and, in particular with her father and uncles, who were old school crims, who seemed to belong to a previous era of geezers, spies, wideboys, hustlers and Flash Harrys. I realised that Philomena and her family deserved more than one novel. There were endless possibilities for conflict and moral dilemmas and torn loyalties.

There was also great scope for humour because her aging father and uncles were old school and of a generation perplexed by political correctness and the minefield of preferred pronouns and gendered language. Add to this the pitfalls of social media and they are all at sea.

Some novels come more easily than others and this one was a joy to write because I love these characters and how they interact with a world, which is changing so quickly.

THE WHITE CROW is out in early July in Australia, the UK and the US, with Canada to follow soon afterwards. The foreign translations should be ready later in the year.
